Solenoid valves that stay in state even during power loss

The design engineers among you will be aware of certain applications where traditional solenoid valves simply do not suffice. Such projects might include systems where the valve needs to stay in state during a power loss event, or battery-operated systems that need to exhibit long working life, or even power-critical systems with extended ‘on’ periods.

Here at Lee Products we have been busy developing a solution for such systems and can now announce the arrival of our Latching Solenoid Valve. Unlike traditional solenoid valves that require continuous voltage to energise from their natural state, our new innovation only needs a momentary pulse of less than a Joule to switch and remain.

But how so, we hear you ask, well, the secret behind the new solenoid valve is the incorporation of permanent magnets with the coil design. The result of this magnetically latching functionality is a dramatic reduction in overall power consumption and heat generation, especially during extended ‘on’ periods.

Rated to a maximum operating pressure of 207 bar, the lightweight (91g) Lee Latching Solenoid Valve is available in 2- and 3-way designs. We can say with confidence that the valve’s suitability is assured for a wide range of industry sectors, including aerospace, defence and oil and gas, to  list but a few. Our new valve concept makes it ideal for battery-powered systems, as well as applica­tions that are subject to occasional power loss, or have the potential to cause the overheating of valves during operation.

The two-position Latching Solenoid Valve draws on design ele­ments from our ultra-compact and field-proven piloting solenoid valves, which incorporate our MultiSeal™ technology. MultiSeal™ radically simplifies port layout, offers significant space savings, reduces machining costs and provides enhanced reliability in comparison with traditional sealing methods.

It is also worth pointing out that we can provide custom configurations to meet envelope, material, flow, pressure and electrical requirements for a wide variety of applications.
